Asian corporates have given Australia’s business events sector lots to cheers, with double digit robust growth last year, in a year when total arivals rose just 2%.
Asia (excluding Japan) contributed over 65,000 – a third – of arrivals tagged as convention and conference to Australia last year. What gave more cheer to the bubbly was that the Asian growth was a hefty 26%.
Markets such as China, Taiwan, India, Korea and Indonesia were performing excellantly for Australia, buoyed by economic growth in the region.
“The strong economic growth in the region has led to increasing corporate profitability,” which translated to more incentive trips, saidJohnny Nee, Regional General Manager, North Asia, Tourism Australia.
He was speaking at a media briefing in conjunction with the Team Australia Business Events Educational in Macau.
Nee explained that more industry sectors - such as retail and investment banking – were also using incentive trips to incentivise and motivate their staff.
This year’s TABEE, the 10th anniversary, has 100 fully hosted buyers meeting with 12 Australian convention bureaus and 38 industry partners.
This year’s TABEE also saw an industry forum touching on the challenges and opportunities for Asian business events in the future.
