New research from Magnus Aviation, a UK-based private jet charter business, has found that around 4% of private aviation flights it manages include pets (last year the corresponding figure was 2%).
It estimates that as many as 11,960 private aircraft that departed European airports in the first five months of this year had one or more pets on-board. Around 1,580 of these departures would have been from the UK.
The company estimates that between May and August this year – the busiest time for private aviation in Europe – there could be over 219,000 departures in Europe, and 8,760 of these could have pets on board (1,155 from the UK).
Magnus Aviation says that more people are taking their pets abroad with them. In 2015 the UK’s Animal and Plant Health Authority (APHA) issued 127,657 pet passports, which was 287% higher than the corresponding figure for 2011.
James Armstrong, head of Commercial Development at Magnus Aviation said: “We are definitely seeing a growing trend for clients wanting to take their pets abroad with them. However, they need to make sure they have the correct documentation with them as they may be refused entry into the country they are flying to.”
