Salalah reports surge in Monsoon tourists

The number of visitors to Oman’s Khareef (monsoon) Season in Salalah exceeded 604,000 this year, a 21.7% increase on 2015 figures according to the National Centre for Statistics and Information (NCSI).
Omanis citizens represented 74% of this total or 447,713 visitors to the Governorate of Dhofar, up 21.6% year on year.
More than 57,000 visitors from the UAE enjoyed this year’s monsoon in Oman, representing constituting a 13.1% compared to the same period in 2015, and Saudi visitors came third in terms of GCC markets – 25,139 travellers, up 39.5% year on year.
Bahrain registered 5,981visitors and Kuwait and Qatar registered 5,957 and 6,810 visitors respectively. Visitors from other Arab countries stood at 12,833, while the Asian visitors represented 4.7% of the total visitors to Dhofar at 40,056; the majority of them were Indian (23,220 visitors).
The number of European visitors rose by 23.8% to reach 2,136 and tourists from American countries increased 5.5% to 810. Visitors from Africa and Oceania stood at 267 and 180 respectively.
