Costa Cruises are planning celebrations to mark two major events in their Chinese expansion; the opening of its new Shanghai cruise terminal, and the company’s 100th China cruise. The 1,000 pax capacity Costa Allegra liner will return to Shanghai for the celebrations. More than 75,000 Guests have cruised on board the Costa Allegra since Asian operations began in July; approximately two-thirds of whom being Chinese. In 2008, the Costa Allegra will operate 19 cruises, 14 of these from the new Shanghai Port International Cruise Terminal and 4 during the Beijing Olympic Games. For 2009, 34 cruises are planned with Costa Allegra and 31 with Costa Classica liner.
“China’s cruise market has a good growth potential,” commented Gianni Onorato, President of Costa Cruises. “Shanghai together with Tianjin will play an important role in this sector due to their role of main ports and economic centres for China,” he added.
