Figures released by the Hong Kong Tourism Board (HKTB) have showed that visitor arrivals in September 2008 reached 2,194,840, a 3.5% year-on-year rise. The month’s figures bring cumulative arrivals for the first nine months of 2008 to 21,768,811, 6.9% ahead of the same period in 2007.
September’s growth was mainly driven by the short-haul regions, with large rises from mainland China (+10.0%) and South & Southeast Asia (+5.3%). Arrivals during the National Day Golden Week holiday period were a large factor in the rise.
