Tokyo’s Haneda airport could become a 24-hour hub for international flights, opening up to daytime flights linking Japan with North America and Europe, the Japan Times has reported. Japan’s Transport Minister, Seiji Maehara, has reportedly indicated that Haneda’s status as Tokyo’s secondary airport, serving domestic and short-haul international routes, could be upgraded following the completion of a fourth runway next year. Approximately 60,000 slots are expected to be available at Haneda from 2011, and with half of these potentially being allocated to long-haul international flights, Maehara was reported saying.
