Viator.com launches Japanese language site

Viator.com, the online travel website, has announced the launch of its latest local-language site in Japan - www.viatorcom.jp. The launch of Viator’s Japanese-language site brings the company’s portfolio of translated local-language sites to eight, with French, German and Spanish having launched in 2009 and Danish, Dutch, Norwegian and Swedish following in 2010. All Viator local-language sites enable travellers to make bookings in their local currency.
“The Japanese travel market provides an important and valuable opportunity for Viator as travel is a vital part of the Japanese lifestyle and sits perfectly alongside the significant percentage of the population that browse and transact online,” said Dan Hart, Viator’s General Manager for Europe and Asia. “We are excited to offer our global selection of destination activities and experiences to the savvy Japanese traveller, and we’re keen to develop our proposition further for this audience. Our move into Japan is a key strategic component of Viator’s ongoing expansion into new markets around the world.”
Early trends indentified by Viator regarding bookings on the new site indicate tours that visit global icons are popular among Japanese travellers, including helicopter flights over the Grand Canyon, visits to the Eiffel Tower and Moulin Rouge show, a cruise around Sydney Harbour and a day trip to Stonehenge and Windsor Castle. Las Vegas, New York City and Paris rank among the most popular destinations for Japanese travellers booking on www.viatorcom.jp, but five destinations in Australia (Sydney, Darwin, Cairns, Melbourne and Adelaide) rank among the top 30.
As with Viator’s previously translated sites, the new Japanese language site offers researching and booking destination activities include guaranteeing the best prices and avoiding sold-out activities. In addition to consumers, the new Japanese-language site is available to Viator’s network of affiliate partners that includes airlines, hotel companies, online travel agencies and other travel providers.
