China rural roads connect 99.4% of settlements

The total length of China’s rural roads reached 3.3 million kilometres by the end of 2009, connecting 99.4% of towns and villages, Xinhua reported transportation official as saying. Some 381,000km of roads were built in China in the past year, exceeding the annual target of 300,000km, China’s Vice Minister for Transport, Feng Zhenglin, was quoted saying.
