The Kenya Tourist Board (KTB) has staged its first promotional seminar and workshop in Qatar, at the Intercontinental, Doha. Headed by Jennifer Opondo, director of Marketing, Kenya Tourist Board (KTB), the delegation included KTB officials, Kenya Wildlife Services representatives, and key Kenyan travel industry companies and individuals, which conducted a series of seminars, workshops and meetings targeting Qatar’s leading travel industry players in order to highlight Kenya’s attractiveness as a holiday and meetings and incentives destination for Qatar residents.Kenya’s rich wildlife and safari experiences were the focus of many of the presentations.Similarly, the vast array of luxury accommodation on offer was also extensively highlighted, with visitors to Kenya able to enjoy 5 star accommodation and services whether they be as a city hotel, golfing or beach resort accommodation type, private serviced villas or exclusive luxury tented camps and resorts in the country’s many national parks. In addition to wildlife and luxury, the Kenya Tourist Board introduced many of the countries cultural experiences to be enjoyed, included visits to Maasai villages and other tribal cultural centres and visits to Kenya’s UNESCO World Heritage town of Lamu, the birth place of Swahili culture, and where G.C.C. nationals can experience how the Arabic language, culture, religion and even architecture strongly shaped and influenced Kenya’s ongoing cultural evolvement.”At only a short four and a half hour flight away from Qatar, Kenya is the perfect long weekend getaway destination for families, couples and friends looking for unique and magical experiences,” said Opondo. “For these same reasons and also due to English being the business language of the country, and the fact that most nationalities are able to acquire their visit visa on arrival, Kenya is a convenient and exciting place for companies to hold their incentive meetings and staff team building activities.”Visitors to Kenya from the Middle East have been steadily climbing year on year, with the total number of visitors from the G.C.C in 2009 standing at 15,579.Visitor data is currently only available until November 2010, however for the first eleven months of 2010 the number of visitors from the G.C.C. has already surpassed the 2009 total reaching 17,110. When compared to the first eleven months in 2009 the increase of visitors from the region is a robust 20%.Numbers from Qatar are significantly smaller with a total of 619 visitors to Kenya in 2009. Again however the increasing trend is maintained with already 887 people from Qatar visiting Kenya in the first eleven months of 2010. When comparing the two eleven month periods this is an increase of 62%.
