Malaysia Airlines’ low-cost subsidiary, Firefly, has announced the launch of its new southern hub in Senai, in the state of Johor, near Singapore. During a press conference held in Petaling Jaya recently, the airline’s Managing Director, Eddy Leong, said that the new southern hub would provide an extra base for its expanding fleet of Boeing 737-800 jet aircraft, initially operating domestic flights to Kuching and Kota Kinabalu. Leong also revealed that he intends to use Johor as a base from which to launch international services to destinations such as Jakarta, Surabaya, Bandung in the third quarter of 2011, and to Bangkok in Q4 this year.
