Hue prepares for Tourism Year 2012

Vietnam’s ancient capital, Hue, is making preparations to host ‘Tourism Year 2012’. The central Thua Thien Hue Province’s People Committee aims to complete 43 projects in time for the campaign. VNS reports that the VND49 trillion (US$2.3 billion) project is over halfway to completion with 23 developments finished and 22 still in the works phase. Among the folly are five hotels by Mercure and Mondial which are already up, and running, while others are on their way. Hue national tourism year 2012, themed “Hue ancient capital city, new experiences”, is a major tourism event planned for the full 12 months. The campaign will promote Vietnam’s tourism products and cultural heritage to both international and domestic tourists.Lying on the north-south railway and the main road to Laos and north-eastern Thailand, and having Phu Bai international airport and the Chan May seaport, the province is a noted stopover for tourists. It plans to reach an annual tourism turnover of more than VND3 trillion with arrivals of at least 1.2 million international tourists a year by 2015.
