Japan Airlines (JAL) and ANA have announced plans to reduce their fuel surcharges. The two carriers have applied to Japan’s Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport & Tourism to cut the tax levels from October 2011.
The revised rates will see the surcharge on routes to Thailand, Singapore and Malaysia drop by JPY1,500 to JPY15,500 (US$19.50 to US$202), while services to Hong Kong and Taiwan will see the same level of reduction, to JPY8,500. The surcharge on routes to Europe, North America and the Middle East will see the largest cut, dropping JPY4,000 to JPY29,000.
