ABTA has submitted its response to the Department for Transport’s ATOL reform proposals. The association’s board has finalised the 28-page response following meetings with members across all regions of the UK and a questionnaire, which has received the largest member participation. Key points of the response include a general support for consumer financial protection but in addition the need for airlines to be included, clarification on Flight Plus and how the changes can be put in place by January. “ATOL reform is such an important issue for our industry and we’ve had a very diverse range of views coming through from our members on the Government’s proposals. We have listened to what our members have told us – in support of and against the proposals – and this feedback has been critical in shaping the ABTA response,” said Mark Tanzer, chief executive of ABTA. “We want a workable solution, not just a quick solution, and believe that the current timetable of January 1st may endanger the quality of the reforms”.
