ABTA unveils ‘Destinations to Watch’ for 2026

ABTA, The Travel Association, has released its annual 'Destinations to Watch' report for 2026, offering fresh travel inspiration as January kicks off a busy holiday booking season.

The report identifies ten diverse destinations worldwide, encouraging travellers to explore less conventional locations.

With 48 percent of people expressing interest in visiting a new country this year, ABTA aims to inspire with alternatives to well-trodden paths.

Graeme Buck, ABTA's Director of Communications, emphasised the report's focus on experiential travel, stating, "With booking a holiday front of mind for so many people right now, our Destinations to Watch report aims to inspire and excite."

Where to go this year

The report features destinations such as Borneo, known for its unspoilt rainforests and Mount Kinabalu, and Colombia, celebrated for its beaches and rich coffee culture.

Egypt's new Great Egyptian Museum in Giza and the picturesque German Baltic Coast also make the list.

ABTA's selections reflect a mix of adventure, culture, and relaxation, catering to diverse traveller interests, and the report also highlights the growing trend of experiential travel, where holidaymakers indulge in hobbies and activities.

As the travel industry anticipates a 20 percent growth in outbound travel by 2030, ABTA's insights offer a glimpse into emerging travel trends and destinations.

The full report is available on ABTA's website, providing detailed insights into each featured location.
