Abu Dhabi National Exhibitions Company has bought UK exhibiton venue ExCel London. The UAE state-owned company said it spent 2.3 billion dirhams on buying ExCeL London.
“This very important acquisition is designed to directly support the Abu Dhabi government’s economic diversification strategy,” Sheikh Sultan bin Tahnoon al-Nahayan, chairman of ADNEC said in a statement.
“Ensuring Abu Dhabi’s role as a major global business tourism centre is an integral element of the strategy,” Sheikh Sultan said.
ExCeL London opened in November 2000 and is the city’s largest and most successful exhibition and conference centre. It has hosted well over 2,000 events and is also slated to provide key venues for the London 2012 Olympics.
ADNEC owns and manages the 55,000 sqm Abu Dhabi National Exhibition Centre, the Arabian Gulf’s largest exhibition venue.
