The Abu Dhabi Festival 2026 marked a significant cultural event with the world premiere of "Ousafirou Wahdi Malikan" (I Travel Alone, as a King) in Beirut on 13 January.
Co-produced by the Abu Dhabi Festival and composer Oussama Rahbani, the concert celebrated the centennial of the legendary Lebanese composer Mansour Rahbani. The event, held at the historic Church of Sacré-Cœur in Gemmayze, featured performances by Hiba Tawaji, the National Symphony Orchestra of Ukraine, and the Notre Dame University choir-Louaize.
The concert, part of the festival's Abroad Programme, was attended by notable figures including Dr. Ghassan Salamé, Lebanon's Minister of Culture. Her Excellency Huda Alkhamis-Kanoo, Founder of the Abu Dhabi Music & Arts Foundation, remarked on Rahbani's profound impact, stating, "We honour Mansour Rahbani, an eminent figure and great creative force — the conscience of our Arab world and our shared humanity."
"Ousafirou Wahdi Malikan" is an oratorio based on 34 poems by Mansour Rahbani, blending Western classical orchestration with Oriental musical expression. Oussama Rahbani highlighted the collaboration's significance, noting the foundation's role in supporting cultural initiatives. Following the concert, Hiba Tawaji was awarded the National Order of the Cedar, Knight Rank, by Lebanon's President.
The festival also hosted an Art @ Embassies discussion at the American University of Beirut, further exploring Rahbani's enduring legacy. This initiative underscores the festival's commitment to fostering cultural dialogue and innovation.
