Hotels in Abu Dhabi have seen a rise in guests and occupancyduring the first month of this year, according to new figures. Data from theAbu Dhabi Tourism Authority (ADTA) revealed a 5 percent increase in hotelguests during January compared to last year, while guest nights rose by 22percent and occupancy reached 66 percent. The emirate found that tourists werealso staying an extra night for a three night stay. “Rising occupancy is a positive sign and ADTAwill continue to focus on balancing the need to maintain our value propositionwith the expectations of healthy returns by sector investors,” said LawrenceFranklin, strategy and policy director at ADTA. “The growth in length of staysuggests that we are making inroads into our goal of attracting an increasingnumber of leisure guests who traditionally spend more time in the destinationthan those staying purely for business purposes.” ADTA is anticipating a risein traffic growth following Etihad’s latest campaign and a range of high-classevents. European arrivals to Abu Dhabi increased 13 percent on 2010, withGermany, the UK and Italy rising by 26 percent, 14 percent and 21 percentrespectively.
