Abu Dhabi Tourism Authority (ADTA) used its Grand Prix Roadshow to promote the city to UK travel agents today. The emirate is focusing on the leisure market in its new strategy, with an emphasis on global events and entertainment options. ADTA spokesperson Angela Bates revealed that construction will begin on a waterpark on Yas Island at the end of this year and a Warner Bros. theme park may open in 2012. Wildlife, cultural highlights and golf tourism are also being highlighted to promote the island. Additionally, Etihad has launched a new destination management company named Hala Abu Dhabi to expand its travel product and services offering. “We have been delivering services for Formula 1 and the film festival since 2008 but have now extended this,” revealed an Etihad spokesperson. She added that a brochure had not been launched as the city was constantly changing. “Instead there is an e-brochure which is updated regularly,” she added. “We can also help agents build their own brochure”. Meanwhile, Yas Marina Circuit Senior Sales Executive Rawan Haddad showcased the resort, which includes a golf course, marina, hotel, yacht club and Ferrari World, which is to open in October. She added that the UK was a key market in the event’s figures. “At last year’s Grand Prix, we had visitors from over 100 countries, with UK attendance five times higher than other countries,” explained Haddad. “70% of this year’s tickets have already been sold.”
