Abu Dhabi has said that all its tourism projects are on track and will be delivered on schedule, Gulf News has reported.
The Tourism Development Investment Company (TDIC), the development managing company of assets held by the Abu Dhabi government, provided an update on 12 of its key projects, which when combined will provide about 7,000 hotel rooms in the next five years.
James Pringle, Executive Director of Development at TDIC, was quoted saying that while the company was “sensitive to the economic condition… we are going ahead with all projects”.
Though officials did not reveal a total value of the 12 projects, earlier reports said the company was investing AED40 billion (US$10.9 billion) and sub-contractors AED60 billion in the development of Saadiyat Island, one of the key projects for the company.
On Saadiyat Island there are a number of milestones scheduled for this year, the report added. These include groundbreaking for the Louvre Abu Dhabi in May, and the groundbreaking for the Guggenheim Abu Dhabi Museum and Zayed National Museum which will take place in the third quarter.
