The number of people visiting Abu Dhabi decreased 5% in August compared to last year, figures have shown. However, according to Abu Dhabi Tourism Authority (ADTA), guest nights have increased 14% during the month, signalling a rise in average lengths of stay. “The overall increase in guest nights is strongly influenced by the number of longer staying guests in hotel apartments and also impacted the average-length-of-stay, which was up by 20%,” said Lawrence Franklin, strategy and policy director at ADTA. “Some of the performance in this accommodation type can also be attributed to temporary relocations deriving from unrest in some Middle East countries.” The hotel apartment market’s occupancy was boosted 6% compared to last year and overall accommodation occupancy rose 2%. More than 1.3 million people have stayed in Abu Dhabi’s hotels so far this year with arrivals from the UK up 18%.
