Abu Dhabi Tourism Authority’s (ADTA) vision for a sustainable tourism industry is to thank for the increasing number of hotel companies entering the city, according to Abu Dhabi hoteliers. The Yas Hotel sales and marketing director Russell Loughland said: “The vision of the future from the government and the drive towards showcasing Abu Dhabi is a gift – it is an extraordinary opportunity for the city to rise.”We are developing the destination and this cannot be sustained unless we work together. We have the Guggenheim, the Louvre – all these different components are coming in to Abu Dhabi and it’s really quite alive,” he added.ADTA’s 2030 plan includes diversifying the emirate’s economy by developing sectors outside of oil reserves, and becoming a stronger draw for both business and leisure tourists. The Yas Hotel itself has developed its reputation as an iconic five star hotel in Abu Dhabi, and has welcomed high-level governmental meetings, awards ceremonies and corporate conferences. The profile of the hotel has blossomed inside and outside the GCC, culminating in the award of the “World’s Best New Hotel” at the World Travel Awards in London in November.”I think Abu Dhabi has taken the right approach because they are expanding in all areas – cultural, heritage, hotels, and attractions,” said Tania Taylor, Al Forsan International Sports Resort sales and marketing director.”Abu Dhabi is absolutely being competitive. The destination is working together – the hotels do compete at a certain level, but everybody has stepped up and said that the destination is the most important thing,” she added.
