In a recent development, Abu Dhabi Airports (ADIA) received approval from the Government of Abu Dhabi on three projects that further support the master plan for development of Abu Dhabi International Airports’ overall infrastructure program.
In line with current construction of Midfield Terminal Building (MTB) set to open in July 2017, the three projects are being built at a total cost of AED1.6 billion. The new projects include additional aircraft hard stands, a new Automated Passenger Mobility (APM) system and an airside road tunnel under the southern runway.
HE Ali Majed Al Mansouri said: “Our initiatives and projects are set to deliver efficient infrastructure that caters to growth of the aviation sector in the region.”
The plans enhance and develop current infrastructure of the airport. Passenger traffic forecasts updated in 2013 show a 30% increase in passenger numbers by the time the MTB opens in 2017, compared to 2011.
