Angry customers in Singapore have accused a local agency of cheating them, including issuing fake air tickets. The TODAY newspaper said a couple who were scheduled to leave for New York, were told at Changi Airport that their tickets were fake. They had paid about SG$3,000 (US$2100) for the pair of tickets on a China Eastern Airlines flight. The report said calls to the agency – Fly International Travel – went unanswered and the outlet was closed.
The report also quoted another customer who said a cheque issued to him for a refund had bounced. Another had claimed he was issued a one-way ticket when he had paid for a return flight.
The newspaper said between January and June this year, the Consumers Association of Singapore had received 541 complaints about travel agents; there were 969 such complaints for the whole of last year.
