Just more than half of consumers are booking their holidays through travel agents and operators, according to ABTA’s latest Consumer Trends survey. Research has shown that 24% booked online through an operator, while 17% went to a high street travel agent and 11% bought their holiday over the phone (totaling to 52%). Meanwhile a quarter of those surveyed booked their hotels direct and a third went straight to the transport provider. “The last decade has seen an explosion in booking options for the consumer,” said ABTA Chief Executive Mark Tanzer. “Protection and the standard of product provided by out members are even more relevant in the current difficuly economic climate when people need and value, the personal touch and care on offer.”
