Air Astana, the flag carrier of Kazakhstan, saw increased demand in 2008. The airline flew 2.3 million passengers last year - up 8% from 2007, while at the same time upping its capacity by 16%, with its fleet growing by 3 (all Airbus A320s) to 21 new aircraft. The airline plans to grow its fleet to 34 aircraft in 2014 and 63 by 2022.
“Although the global air transport industry faced enormous challenges in 2008, Air Astana still managed to achieve growth in passenger traffic, fleet and route network and remain profitable,” said Peter Foster, President of Air Astana.
