Air Astana is preparing to welcome athletes and spectators to Kazakhstan for the seventh Asian Winter Games, which opens in the country today. The Kazakhstani national carrier has organised a series of charter flights for Games participants travelling to Astana, as well as 14 additional flights between Almaty and Astana, in order to meet increased passenger demand during the event, which runs until 6 February 2011.
Air Astana will participate in opening and closing ceremonies of the Asian Games 2011 in Astana and Almaty respectively, and the Asian Winter Games logo and its mascot, Irbi the snow leopard, will decorate the fuselage of Air Astana’s fleet.
“Air Astana is very proud to have been named Official Air Carrier for the Asian Winter Games”, said Peter Foster, President of Air Astana. “With our 2010 Skytrax award winning standards of service and hospitality, a fleet of modern Airbus and Boeing airliners and above all, the very highest standards of safety, I’m confident that Air Astana will not only play a leading role in projecting a very positive image of Kazakhstan to a wide international sporting audience, but also help dramatically to boost future tourist arrivals.”
Held yesterday, the Games’ opening ceremony was attended by 27,000 people including Kazakhstan’s President Nazarbayev.
