British Airways chief Willie Walsh has said that Air India should have restructured 10 years ago in an interview with The Economic Times.Walsh, who has experience in managing a complicated merger of two major airlines, when asked for his advice for Air India to get it right, said: “The problem with Air India is peculiar – it should have restructured 10 years ago, when there was no Kingfisher, no Jet, no competition.”He asked whether India really needed a national airline. “I believe you’ve got to be completely realistic about problems – the same problems that were there 5 years ago, are still there. And whatever needs to be done, the sooner the better.”He said Air India issue was that politics had come in.”I believe governments shouldn’t get involved in aviation.”
