Air New Zealand will cut fares to Australia by an average 15% next month to boost passenger numbers, Bloomberg has reported. Effective 14 October, the Kiwi carrier will slash trans-Tasman fares in an effort to boost yields. The move coincides with the installation of new entertainment systems on its Airbus A320 Boeing 767 aircraft flying to Australia and the Pacific Islands.
“It is imperative we fly full planes given the investment the company has made in the fleet,” said Air NZ’s Manager of Tasman and Pacific services, Glen Sowry. “The airline wants to lift average passenger numbers per Tasman flight closer to 80% of capacity from 75%,” he added.
