Commencing 3rd December 2009, Air Pacific commences twice-weekly direct flights between Nadi and Hong Kong opening up a whole new market for Fiji beyond Hong Kong, as a result of its new code-share arrangements with Cathay Pacific.
Passengers flying to Fiji from destinations like UK/Europe and rest of Asia now have a faster, easier and more direct connection to the tourism hotspot. Further, Air Pacific’s Tabua Class members have access to Cathy Pacific’s lounge and vice versa, ensuring passenger comfort on the new route.
Back in October 2008, Air Pacific’s Managing Director and CEO John Campbell set the wheels in motion by announcing that the airline would be launching services into Hong Kong in 2009. This was after negotiations between the Government of Fiji and the Special Regulatory Authority of Hong Kong were initiated to establish Air Services Agreements to allow Air Pacific to commence non-stop flights between Nadi and Hong Kong.
The Boeing 767 plane used for the Nadi-Hong Kong flights seats 18 passengers in business class and 228 in economy. Flight time is approximately 10 hours.
Mr. Campbell also announced the appointment of Mr. Watson Seeto as Air Pacific’s new General Manager, Asia. His role is to finalise the operational arrangements of Air Pacific’s commencement of services from December 03rd, 2009 and to establish the marketing program, tour wholesale arrangements, pricing and distribution structure and all freight and commercial aspects of Hong Kong services.
