Airbus Sales Soar at Paris Show

This catapults Airbus’ 2007 tally for firm ordersto 420, just 15 shy of rival Boeing’s 435, as stated by Dow Jones.
Boeing only mustered 46 orders, 40 of which areB737-900ERs heading to Indonesia’sLion Air in line with the carrier’s major Asian expansion plans in the comingyears to continue gnawing into Garuda’s share.
Airbus’ star attraction, the A380 put in a fairperformance with Emirates signing up for eight more of the aircraft, bringingthe airline’s total to 55. Qatarcommitted to three additional A380s and Air France put in an order for twomore. Other models turned in good numbers, including the A350.
Airbus also announced at the show that it hasupped its forecasted annual delivery to 500 aircraft by 2010 compared to the440-450 it expects to manufacture this year. Production of the A320 will beboosted to 40 per month over the next three years.
When asked if Boeing had plans to up production, CEO Scott Carson said the B737programme will remain on course for at least seven years, depending on technologyand demand.
Industry insiders expect Boeing to leverage itsfive-year development gap between the B787 and A350 in the narrow-body segmentto drive sales.
