Business aviation operators are crying foul over plans by the authorities to award a ground services contract at Seletar airport in Singapore to a monopoly operator, Business Times reported. The newspaper reports the operators have been told by the Economic Development Board – one of three agencies spearheading the redevelopment of the airport – that all ground-handling, fuel bunkering and maintenance operations would be in the hands of a single operator.
Tenders for the ground handling would be called soon and the winning bidder would be the sole provider of the service for a decade, the report said. “Right now we have our own team to load up our own tanks on our Hercules planes,” said Tony Evans of Safair. “What this means is we will soon be forced to use a third-party operator doing the work we can already do – and will be charged for it.”
