Akasa Air, India's rapidly expanding airline, has joined the International Air Transport Association (IATA), a significant milestone achieved just over three years after commencing operations. This membership reflects Akasa Air's growing influence in the global aviation sector and follows its successful completion of the IATA Operational Safety Audit (IOSA), a key safety benchmark.
The inclusion of Akasa Air in IATA, which represents over 360 airlines accounting for more than 80% of global air traffic, underscores the airline's commitment to international safety and operational standards. IATA plays a crucial role in setting global aviation standards and fostering collaboration among airlines, regulators, and industry partners worldwide.
Sheldon Hee, IATA's Regional Vice President for Asia-Pacific, expressed enthusiasm about Akasa Air's membership, noting India's significant aviation potential, which supports 7.7 million jobs and contributes $53.6 billion (US$53.6 billion) to the economy. Hee stated, "We look forward to engaging with Akasa Air and to their active participation in shaping the airline industry’s agenda, priorities, and initiatives in India, the Asia Pacific region, and globally."
Vinay Dube, Founder and CEO of Akasa Air, highlighted the airline's disciplined growth approach and commitment to safety, operational excellence, and sustainability. "We are confident that this association will strengthen our global credibility and position Akasa as a future-ready Indian airline on the world stage," Dube remarked.
Akasa Air's membership in IATA will enable it to engage more deeply with international stakeholders, participate in industry-wide dialogues, and contribute to initiatives focused on safety management, digital transformation, and sustainable aviation. This development marks a pivotal step in Akasa Air's journey, reinforcing its role in the evolution of the global aviation industry whilst supporting India's expanding presence in international air travel.
