Travel agents and tour operators are being invited to think of a name for AMAWATERWAYS’ new Mekong river vessel by March 6, 2010 to be in with a chance of winning a luxury, seven night river cruise for two.Due to overwhelming demand for its new ‘Vietnam, Cambodia and the Riches of the Mekong’ programme, AMAWATERWAYS, one of the world’s fastest-growing river cruise lines, is building a second vessel to operate on the Mekong in conjunction with the 92-passenger MS La Marguerite, which was launched in September 2009.Expected to debut in 2011, the new-build will, like its sister, be one of the most deluxe vessels on the Mekong, with richly decorated, colonial-style interiors inspired by the 1930s. It will offer weekly cruises embarking alternately from Saigon and Siam Rep, cruising along one of the most important rivers in South East Asia, through Vietnam and Cambodia. The original ship’s name, ‘La Marguerite’, relates to the French novelist Marguerite Duras, who set many of her books in what was in the 1930s known as Indochine. AMAWATERWAYS has, however, suggested that the new Mekong vessel’s name will probably include the trademark ‘AMA’ prefix common to the line’s ships operating in Europe, which include Amacello, Amadolce, Amalyra and Amadante, although all entries will be considered.
