American Airlines’ Pacific traffic grows 12%

American Airlines’ trans-Pacific routes continued to be in high demand in January 2011, with passenger traffic, measured in revenue passenger kilometres (RPK), rising 12.3% last month. The result marked the largest increase of any of the airline’s global regions. The US carrier expanded capacity on its Pacific routes by 15.3% last month, leading to a 2.1 point decline in load factor, which averaged 78% for the month. Globally, American’s traffic rose 2.0% last month, with a 6.2% rise in international traffic countering a 0.7% drop in domestic demand.
