The growth is attributed from a combination of new clients and the strong demand for business travel services out of Singapore. Irene See, Vice President and General Manger ASEAN said their strong performance is evidence of their continued focus on customer service and stability of their consultant team which has seen a number of clients returning to American Express Business Travel. “According to the American Express Asia Pacific Business Travel Monitor for Q2 2007, both full first class and full business class fares out of Singapore increased by 4% while full economy decreased by 15%.
These trends highlight the strong demand for business grade travel out of Singapore. As a result we are seeing carriers remove seats from economy in favour of premium seats such as Singapore Airlines’ plans to introduce the Airbus 380 mega liner in October,” explained See. The company also reported a solid year in Asia Pacific with wins up 54% and sales up 10% year-on-year across the region. This stems from substantial investment, roll-out of online market-specific solutions, and a positive response to the new Advisory Services offering, implemented recently.
According to Libby Roy, General Manager and Vice President for American Express Business Travel, Japan, Asia Pacific and Australia, the favourable Asia Pacific economy is a factor in their growth - due to the economy being the key driver of passenger growth in developing countries.
“We have seen the most rapid growth in the emerging markets where first half sales increased by 42% in India and 28% in Thailand compared to the same period in 2006. The sales growth is a result of a number of significant new business wins across a wide range of industries - from finance and manufacturing to mining and technology - and include ABN Amro in Australia and Symantec Corp in India.” Roy added.
