Airbus has decided to retrofit its large ‘Sharklet’ winglets for the current in-service fleet of Airbus A320s. The planemaker has confirmed that it is working on developing the right technical solution for the project, either in-house or using an external partner.
“We are confident that our customers will appreciate not only the benefits from improved fuel efficiency that retrofitting large winglets will bring to their in-service A320 Family fleets, but also from the enhanced residual value,” said Tom Williams, Airbus’s Executive Vice President – Programmes.
Airbus added that the retrofit programme would help it develop the ‘forward-fit’ Sharklets for new-build aircraft.
