For travellers looking for a Singapore hotel that rises above the rest, it’s difficult to look beyond Swissotel The Stamford.
This is mainly because, measuring 226 metres from lobby to rooftop, it is the tallest hotel in the country. In fact, when completed in 1986 it was the tallest hotel in the whole of Asia, but while other hotels have since risen above Swissotel The Stamford in terms of height, few are able to match it terms of facilities.
Located in the centre of Singapore, in a complex adjoining the Raffles City Convention Centre and shopping complex, Swissotel The Stamford can quite literally boast everything under one roof – albeit a very high roof.
The hotel offers 1,261 rooms, all equipped with flat-screen televisions, work desks and multi-adaptor plug sockets, which make it wonderfully simple to get to get to work as soon as you arrive. Or for those wanting to relax and take in their surroundings, all rooms offer private balconies, with views across the city. But that’s only the tip of the proverbial iceberg when it comes to this hotel’s amenities…
For diners, the property features no fewer than 16 food and beverage outlets including the Equinox Complex – a complete entertainment hub on the upper floors of the hotel, featuring five restaurants and bars, a nightclub and four private dining rooms.
The most spectacular of them all has to be JAAN – a contemporary French fine dining restaurant that serves up pure culinary theatre. Led by Chef Julien Royer, this 40-seat restaurant offers a seasonal menu of stunning dishes that foam, fizz and smoke, both at the table and on the tastebuds. Expect such inventive creations as grilled Landes foie gras with strawberries, confit Arctic char with almonds, and rosemary ice cream, all accompanied by spectacular views across Marina Bay.
Of course Singapore now is one of the world’s centres for the meeting and conference industry, and Swissotel The Stamford offers more than 6,500m² of floor space, including 27 meeting rooms and the 3,200-delegate capacity Raffles Ballroom. And for those wanting to unwind, the hotel’s Willow Stream Spa is one of Asia’s largest, offering 35 private treatment rooms, a huge fitness centre, two outdoor swimming pools and six tennis courts.
So certainly the numbers seem to add up (and then some) for Swissotel The Stamford, but what is the guest experience like? Well, with any hotel catering to more than 2,000 guests at a time, you can’t help but lose something of the personal touch. But the staff seem to cope admirably, with minimal waiting times at breakfast and a reception desk always willing to help.
But what really impresses is the sheer convenience of the hotel. Everything is fast and efficient; and with the huge Raffles City shopping complex just steps away, even the busiest guest can pop out of their meeting, do some shopping, grab a coffee and then return for their next appointment. The only danger is you might not make it outside the hotel!
In Singapore’s fast-growing hotel industry, the Swissotel The Stamford still rises above the crowd, both literally and figuratively.
