APD charges bring welcome business for UK ferry operators

Increases in Air Passenger Duties which must be paid by Indian travellers when flying out of the UK has boosted business for ferry operators as travellers avoid flying out of the UK when planning their holiday.
Stena Line is predicting a 100% increase in Indian passengers in 2011 on its twice daily Harwich to the Hook of Holland ferry service. Some 10,000 Indian tourists travelled the route in 2010 and 20,000 are expected in 2011 as Indians holidaying in Europe avoid the Air Passenger Duty (APD) costs that would be incurred flying back from the UK.
India is in APD band C which means that the tax has doubled at the end of 2010 to GBP100 for standard class and
