Scottish regional airline Loganair has already offered to amend bookings for free in anticipation for flight disruption from the volcanic ash cloud. Although information from the airline and Met Office has shown that the skies in Shetland and Orkney are clear, the carrier has announced it will allow passengers with bookings for today and tomorrow (24 May) to amend their booking for free on flights up to and including 31 May. Its connecting Flybe flights will also be covered, if made under a single booking reference. It has not cancelled any flights in the next two days. “Following the developments after last year’s volcanic eruption, we are able to operate safely in areas where volcanic ash is present at lower densities. This represents a significant step forward from last April’s events when no flight operations were possible where any trace of volcanic ash was present. However, we cannot rule out the possibility of flight disruption if a high density of volcanic ash is carried by prevailing winds into UK airspace,” said a spokesperson from Loganair.
