Thefigures are particularly significant because AAPA doesn’t currently include anylow-cost carriers in its ranks, meaning established airlines are also sharingin the strong growth in passenger air traffic in the region. However cargotraffic fell 3.5 pointsduring the period to 66%, with AAPA director general Andrew Herdman sayingsofter demand is seeing freight rates under pressure “as a result of newcapacity currently exceeding the growth in demand”. He said conditions in theair cargo sector aren’t expected to improve “until mid-year at the earliest”.
Herdmansaid the outlook for the passenger business for the rest of 2007 remainsbroadly positive, reflecting the “relative strength of regional Asia Pacific traveldemand”. AAPA members include SQ, MH, GA, CX, TG, VN, BN, JL, NH &QF.
