Hotel developer, Asia Sense Group, is planning to invest THB72 million (US$2 million) to develop the 21-room Asia Spirit Lodge & Spa on Koh Samui.
The Bangkok Post reported the group’s Executive Director, Jean-Pierre Verjus, as saying that he has confidence in the Thai holiday island, despite the current economic climate. “Tourists are still travelling but they just spend less time and money,” he was quoted saying. “With these limitations, they will be more selective and will tend to choose a quality destination to relax. And Samui is that choice.”
Asia Sense also plans to invest around THB50 million to develop a boutique hotel by the Mekong River in Thailand’s northern province of Chiang Rai, the report added.
