Research has revealed that young Australians have been feeling the allure of Asia, with 50% of 18-35s having visited the continent in the last three to four years.
The findings were released by Contiki Holidays as part of its annual Travel Trends Research Report, carried out by Galaxy Research. This year’s report, ‘The Skilled Set’, revealed that the top three hotspots for 18-35s planning a trip to Asia in the next couple of years are Bangkok (45%), Ho Chi Minh City (32%) and Hanoi (23%).
Those visiting Vietnam were more likely to be the older age range, while Thailand, proved more popular with the younger crowd.
Contiki Holidays’ Managing Director, Tammy Marshall, said; “Asia appeals to the 18-35 market for a number of reasons. It has a high level of accessibility due to budget airlines and new routes regularly popping up and offers amazingly unique sights and cultural experiences unlike anywhere else in the world. Plus, the short haul flights make it easy for travellers with limited annual leave, which according to our research, is the most popular time for 18-35s to travel.”
Contiki launched its new Asia program late last year, with seven new touring itineraries in destinations such as Vietnam, Thailand, Laos and Cambodia. The first tours kicked off in March.
