Abu Dhabi has recorded a 10% increase in hotel guests for 2011’s first quarter. Figures from the Abu Dhabi Tourism Authority (ADTA) have found that 510,114 guests stayed in hotels during January-March 2011 totalling 1.56 million guest nights. The UK remained the top overseas market and second overall market after domestic countries, with a 20% increase in British visits compared to last year’s Q1. “It’s been a sterling first quarter performance much of which can be attributed to the dynamic programme of events, both business and leisure, which have taken place in the emirate over the past three months,” said Lawrence Franklin, director strategy and policy at ADTA. “These, combined with the pull of the Yas Island Weekends which are serving up an enticing mix of entertainment, hotels deals, golf and visits to Ferrari World Abu Dhabi, have kept the momentum going with the impact evident in the 13% rise in average length of stay to just over 3 nights.” The country’s occupancy rate increased 10% to 72% and room revenue increased 6% next to a 15% drop in average room rate.
