ATOAI Convention in Srinagar

The 9th convention of the Adventure Tour Operators Association of India will be held in Srinagar, Jammu and Kashmir, from September 12 to 15, with the theme of Indian Adventure – Creating Opportunities, and focus on Networking, Marketing and Capacity Building. Chief Minister Omar Abdullah had invited the association and is giving full support to hold the event, expected to be attended by over 400 delegates. Convention chairman Swadesh Kumar said that the ATOAI will make all efforts to promote Kashmir and adventure and an exciting programme was being drawn up. Hiran Coory, PATA Chairman, will be the keynote speaker at the convention.The association president Tajbir Singh Anand said that a new, innovative website has been created so that members can gain from it. ATOAI is inviting nominations from July 11 for awards in 10 categories. These are Life Time Achievement, Hall of Fame, Excellence for Adventurer of the Year, Excellence for Best Practices in Adventure Travel, Excellence for Luxury Camps, Excellence for Adventure Camps, Excellence for Innovative Adventure Lodge Concept, Excellence for Capacity Building, Excellence for Adventure Friendly State, and Excellence for Promoting Adventure Travel/Activity Beyond the Himalayas. An exhibition will also be organised at the convention and 200 buyers – 100 from abroad and 100 local – are expected. Kumar said local involvement plus student participation will be other highlights of the convention, to be held at the Sher E Kashmir International Convention Centre.
