Auckland has formed a new partnership with Flight Centre aimed at increasing the number of Australians travelling to New Zealand’s largest city.
An agreement between Auckland Tourism, Events & Economic Development (ATEED) and Australia’s biggest travel agency chain will lead to the creation of a range of new holiday packages to the Auckland region, marketed by Flight Centre in Australia.
“Our aim is to significantly increase the number of Australian visitors to Auckland,” explained ATEED’s chief executive, Brett O’Riley. “This year’s project is nearly complete and we’re confident we’ll surpass our target of generating 20,000 extra arrivals into Auckland through Flight Centre’s channels and stimulating more than NZ$17 million (US$13.6m) of foreign exchange for the Auckland visitor economy.”
The new partnership agreement is worth NZ$1m, and will also see Flight Centre Australia hold a conference for its state marketing managers on Auckland’s Waiheke Island later this year.
ATEED is aiming to almost double the value of Auckland’s tourism industry from NZ$3.3 billion in 2010 to NZ$6bn in 2021.
