Australia’s Prime Minister, Kevin Rudd, has said he wants to bring to account those responsible for the stranding of a Chinese ship on the Great Barrier Reef, according to a Bloomberg report.
“It’s outrageous that any vessel could find itself 12km off course, it seems, in the Great Barrier Reef,” Rudd was reported saying after flying over the Shen Neng 1. “The practical challenge then is to bring to account those who are responsible”, he added
While oil has been seen leaking from the ship, the amount spilled is thought to be minimal. The ship was carrying 65,000 metric tons of coal and about 975 tons of fuel oil ran aground approximately 100km off the Queensland coast on 3 April.
