British Airways has announced it will enter a codeshare agreement with Kingfisher Airlines. The deal comes in effect from 15 September on flights across India, Sri Lanka, the UK and Europe. As a result, bookings, frequent flyer schemes and lounge access from both airlines will be integrated. “Last year we proudly celebrated 80 years of flying to India and it remains one of our most important longhaul destinations,” said BA Chief Executive Willie Walsh. “The codeshare with Kingfisher Airlines will give our customers easier access to Indian domestic routes and Sri Lanka.” The move comes after reports of the weekend that suggested Walsh had drawn up a shortlist of 12 airlines he’d like BA to merge with. According to BBC News Walsh said that the newly-created International Airlines Group (IAG) – formed by BA and Iberia - has “looked at airlines around the world and identified those that would be attractive to us”, and added that the list had been whittled down from 40 to 12. Kingfisher Airlines is rumoured to be one of the 12.
