Bali Update (balidiscovery.com) said the traditional wisdom the island’s tourism circles that January - March represented the lowest season for foreign tourist arrivals had lost its relevance.
March foreign arrival to Bali hit 153,216, almost 30% more than a year before. Bali Update said March 2007 was already the “best ever March” on record until the current March arrivals broke new ground.
With the March numbers, the first quarter saw foreign arrivals to Bali reaching 46,553 - a 25% jump compared to the same period last year.
According to statistics provided by Bali Update, the top source markets were Japan (94,357), Australia (57,238), Taiwan (36,925), China (35,994), South Korea (31,609) and Malaysia (24,984).
The report said among European markets, Russia has emerged as the leader of the pack. During the first quarter, it brought in just over 19 million visitors. Other top markets were the UK, Germany, France and Holland.
“If current growth rates are sustained through the remainder of 2008, Bali arrivals will top 2 million for the year,” said Bali Update.
