Less than six months into its opening, Bangkok Convention Centre already has bookings for events up to 2012.
BCC is the Thai capital’s newest convention venue and is part of an integrated complex that also includes the 505-room Centara Grand hotel which is opening early next year.
“We have booking from Australia and Europe as well as Asia with the biggest involving 2,500 delegates,” said Michel Horn, General Manager of Centara Grand.
He said the convention centre also has several events involving the 1,500-2,500-delegate range.
“The core convention business is kicking in now and we have launched meeting packages for our 15 meeting rooms,” said Horn.
The convention centre opened in July this year and has hosted several events, including the recent IT&CMA travel trade show.
Going green as well
Horn said from next year onwards, when the rooms at his hotel open, the convention centre would go full swing.
He said BCC has the advantage of being the only convention hotel in Bangkok, with probably the Shangri-La Bangkok offering some competition when it comes to smaller conventions.
The new name, Centara Grand – rebranded from Central – has also gone down well with clients, he said.
With sales offices in Singapore and Japan, Horne said there would be more aggressive efforts to promote the hotel, which currently counts domestic business at 60%.
