Beach tourism next step for Andhra Pradesh

Andhra Pradesh, on India’s Eastern coastline, is an upcoming tourist destination with lots to offer. In its latest project the Andhra Pradesh Tourism Development Corporation (APTDC) plans to build on existing and growing infrastructure to promote beach tourism in Vizakapatnam. “We are going to promote beach tourism in the Vizakapatnam area in a big way, as that part of the state has adequate deluxe hotel accommodation,” says Sandeep Kumar Sultania, Vice Chairman and Managing Director of APTDC. The Taj and Park hotels contribute a room capacity of more than 1000 rooms and the state of the art Hyderabad International Conference and Convention Centre is already doing well, he informs. There are 52 resorts in the area already and four more are in the development pipeline. Furthermore, Andhra Pradesh is going ahead with a certification programme to boost medical tourism and package tours being marketed by GMR and Jet Airways are driving numbers to the area.
